To talk about gender without reducing it to sexuality, or eroticism, to talk about physicality without prejudice, to reposition the body within the arts without cynicism, with respect and a celebration of diversity. The human body is…a promise of sanity. The respect founded for the body is a reflection of our respect for other people, an important factor for tolerance and benevolence.
My work seeks to reposition the body within contemporary arts discussion. This obsession with the body is born of the frustrations with my own failing health. Years of suffering from chronic psoriasis has raised questions in my work as to the potential of the idealised body. How we judge each other in comparison to the media propaganda on the idealised body. How the surface and shape of our bodies deeply affect perceptions of ourselves and others.
